Challenge

'Explore the relationship between interactivity
and print using
ground-breaking technologies like
conductive ink.'

Approach

Signal | Noise launched a self-initiated project called Interaphics to look at how print could become interactive by employing cutting-edge technology.

We decided there were two key areas to explore: how to use touch to activate both image and sound.

Outcome

We used conductive ink, a wireless paper-based input device that can be used to control software and displays. The system is proprietary to Signal | Noise and was debuted at the Aram Gallery as part of London Design Week.

We worked with designers Build and Danny Sangra to develop interactive posters that controlled projected images and audio. When users touched printed hotspots on the posters, they triggered software events via Bluetooth.
