‘Re-design the user interface of Olympus's 'million frames per second' video camera to make a product previously aimed at scientific applications accessible to an entirely new market.'
Olympus had developed a truly amazing product that was capably of capturing footage at incredibly high speeds. The device was initially used for demanding scientific applications such as ballistics testing. Signal | Noise was commissioned to simplify the highly complex UI so it would appeal to the lucrative film and TV production market.
Working with experienced slow-motion film-makers, we first identified the core functions and restructured the camera’s menu system to provide a UI that allowed quick access to them. We then completely reworked the design of the UI to remove text and make it as visual as possible.
The final UI stripped the function list of the device down from 160 to 35, producing a much more intuitive product. We also designed a more sophisticated look and feel that would be familiar to the demanding and visually savvy production industry.
