Exploring the discovery of gravitational waves
100 years after Einstein’s prediction, the detection of gravitational waves on February 11th marked a big step in fully understanding gravity.
The waves were caused by a collision of two black holes which caused ripples in the fabric of spacetime. This observation signals a new era of gravitational wave astronomy that will potentially open up the same level of exploration as light-based astronomy.
We wanted to learn more about what this discovery meant so we’ve put together a graphic to explain how the new findings will help us look further into the past.
