The data stories behind the 2016 Olympic Games
We're big fans of the Olympics and love the detail of coverage that happens every four years. However, the data behind the events is rarely the focus and we wanted to change that; we created our first Instagram series looking at the Olympics through the lens of data.
We looked at different aspects of the Olympics and chose 9 topics that we decided to cover. We covered stat-based data like the number of shuttlecocks used in the Games (8.4k in case you're wondering) as well as larger datasets looking at gender equality with women participation numbers over the years.
Using small amounts of data, we were able to provide alternative analysis alongside the main coverage and reach people across social media platforms.
Have a look through the series below or on our Instagram.
